Virante have released a web-based, free SEO Tool that shows a graphical representation of inter-linking between the top 50 domains for any given keyword search. From their website:

“The diagram shows three concentric circles. The center shows sites ranking from 1-12 for your keyword. The second shows 13-24, and third shows 25-36. The size of the “blips” for each website is dependent upon the number of inbound links from other sites in the top 36. The colors of the lines indicate which direction the link is pointing. If the line is the same color as the blip, it is an inbound link. If it is a different color, it is an outbound link.”

SEO Tool Pros

  • Provides a unique perspective into the competitiveness and maturity of a given market
  • Reveals potential linking opportunities with relevant sites

SEO Tool Cons

  • It’s not stated what data they are using. My guess would be google.
  • You can only do one keyword / phrase at a time, and the tool takes around 30 seconds to generate the graphic, so the research process is quite slow
  • A tabular version of the data in addition to the graphic would be nice
  • The circles are in concentric rings of 12 sites - 10 might have been better, is it would have represented Google’s pagination
